Jonathan Gauthier Series Snaffle Bit is a horse bit with an antique finish made of sweet iron.
13 cm snaffle mouthpiece with copper inlays and 3" rings.
The snaffle bit has heavy rings and on the back where the copper inlays are placed the mouthpiece is slightly triangular shaped. Because of this the bit creates a larger contact surface on the tongue. The moment the rider gives pressure on the reins, the bit tilts slightly forward, which makes the contact surface on the tongue smaller. This ensures a more precise and effective communication.

Sweet iron will rust when it comes into contact with (air) humidity; the surface rust tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the saliva production. This will cause the horse to salivate more which in turn encourages better acceptance of the bit. The rusting process (oxidation) changes the colour of the bit to a brownish-grey.
If a sweet iron bit is not used for a while, an orange-brown rust layer may develop on the mouthpiece. Simply remove this by wiping the bit with a damp cloth.
