German martingale

The German Martingale ensures that the inexperienced horse stays better in the frame. A fair assist rein of which the pressure immediately disappears if the horse reacts correctly. This western version has no belt around the neck and fine smooth gliding ropes for through the bit rings. You replace your own reins for the supplied reins with rings.

5/8" x 8' split reins. Solid brass hardware. Hand rubbed edges.

You might see these made in all leather, but I prefer the lightness of the cord used in this example. It has three adjustment points on the reins. If your horse goes past the desired point of flexion, the martingale disengages, and the horse is straight in your hands. This is a popular piece of equipment for multiple events.
