How to take care of your boots?
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR BOOTS
- Clean cloth
- Soft bristle brush
- Leather cleaner
- Leather conditioner
- Leather polish and/or boot cream
HOW OFTEN
We recommend that you clean your leather boots or shoes with a clean cloth or soft brush after each wear. A damp cloth can also be used after each wear to remove any other dirt or debris
Leather shoes or boots should be conditioned every one to two months and polished as needed.
HOW TO CLEAN
- Remove loose dirt with a clean cloth or soft brush.
- Gently wipe leather with damp cloth, being careful to avoid getting the leather too wet.
- If desired, use a commercial leather cleaner, following instructions on the packaging.
- Let boots dry completely before storing or continuing on to next step.
- Every one to two months, apply leather conditioner of your choice, according to the instructions on package. Be sure to test the conditioner on a small spot before applying to the entire shoe or boot.
- Condition your shoes or boots by rubbing small amounts of conditioner into the leather using a soft cloth until entire boot has been treated.
- Allow conditioner to absorb into leather for about 15 minutes, then wipe off excess with a soft cloth.
- To polish leather, select a polish or boot cream that matches your leather, testing on a small spot before applying to the entire shoe or boot.
- After testing, apply polish to entire shoe or boot and allow to dry.
- Brush with a soft bristle brush and follow by rubbing with a soft cloth.
The signs of a well fitting boot:
- Correct fitting from heel to ball joint which is based on the internationally recognised Brannock system. Ball joint being the widest part of the foot, just behind the toes. The toes should not be crammed and move easily.
- Correct pattern design through instep to heel cup. Foot entry in to the boot should be firm, quite often requiring moderate force to get on. A plastic bag can often be of assistance getting the foot in to a new boot especially during the first few wears until the leather gives and conforms to the shape of the foot! Once on, the plastic bag can be pulled out and removed. The boot may have some slip at the heel when walking, this is normal and will disappear over the first few wears as the boot flexes through the sole and conforms to the foot.
- The boots are high quality cowboy boots, which means you'll have to work to get them on, then once your foot is in place, it should feel extremely comfortable. Your arch should feel supported.
